New Year: New You!!!

I really HATE all the signs that say that everywhere. And by everywhere...I mean EVERYWHERE. The grocery store, borders, the bank, the gym, blah blah blah blah blah. Listen. Last year I made like 8-10 resolutions and I kept 1 of them. Just because it's 2011 does not mean that I'm going to transform into a skinny, well-informed, nicer, money-saver. If someone wants to change something about themselves, they should do it when they feel like it...not just in January.

Now, that being said, I've decided not to make a typical "New Years Resolution". I'm going to make a few life resolutions instead. I didn't start these resolutions until January 10th, because I figured by then I've already beaten out the people who have given up on their New Years Resolutions because they are impossible to keep. Here are my life resolutions:

1. Floss
-Not everyday. Not every other day. I'm just going to make a conscious effort to floss when I have the time and I feel like it. I never used to floss, and recent trips to the dentist have landed me at the conclusion that I'm going to have gingivitis before I'm 30 thanks to hereditarily weak gums (thanks mom and dad). Although this isn't my fault (hence the hereditary) my genes aren't going to bail me out of gum disease, so I'm going to take my mouth's future by the reins and change it.

2. Eat Healthier
-No I'm not on a diet. I'm not giving myself x amount of pounds to lose by June or whatever. I just want to eat better. Less Taco Bell, more turkey burgers. And I've added a protein shake in the mix (which I'm having a love affair with btw). It's for women and it's called "GNC WELLbeING:Be Buff" in chocolate- in case you are looking for one yourself.

3. Get back in the swing of working out.
-Again, not in an effort to lose weight. I used to work at a gym (Club Fitness- Holla!) and be obsessed with working out. After some unfortunate turns of events for my 17 year old self (quitting, a break up, etc) I stopped hitting the treadmill and turned to my Tivo for some consoling. That was in 2007 and I've dabbled in the gym scene a few times throughout the last few years, but I'm really into it becoming by BFF again. It just makes you feel good. Also- I graduate in March, and the unemployment rate is still pretty high. And although I don't want to be a Victoria's Secret model, I'd like to have it as my back up plan in case the marketing/advertising thing falls through.

4. Get a job...as in a career.
     Enough said.

I would just like to reiterate that this is NOT a plan to make this a NEW YEAR NEW ME! It's just a plan that I began on January 10th. It's all about making attainable goals and being realistic about how you achieve them!

Progress:

1. I've flossed about 12 of the last 20 days.
2. I have stuck with a healthy eating plan, had a protein shake after every work out, and only had an unhealthy meal about 4 times since January 10th.
3. I have a calendar in which I place star stickers on every day that I go to the gym (very kindergarten-esque) and I have 15 stickers on the calendar since Jan. 10.
4. I've applied for 1 big girl job, and I'm just hoping that one works out. It's very stressful applying for a job.

I think I'm doing all right for myself!

  2. No matter what you eat, that is your diet. Be calm, the job will come to you.
